Custom Photography
What is Custom Photography and what makes Heather Hogan different from other photographers?
(A detailed description on what to expect with a Custom Photography session)
When you commission Heather to create a portrait, you are investing in her time, experience, expertise and most of all her talent. Unlike box store sessions, which follow a standard template using the same images, each session at Heather Hogan Photography is tailored for you. There are no sets or staged backdrops; instead we use a simple, solid backdrop making our photos about the subject and their expressions, not the background, so there are no distractions.
There are no routines, scripts, set lists of “shots or poses” that are followed – instead your session will be completely customized for you, which will result in a special and personal experience. Sessions are never booked back to back. Plenty of time is always allowed because we never want a client to feel rushed. It is important to Heather to take time to make all subjects feel comfortable and at ease so that she is able to capture them – not just take their photo, but really translate something in their personalities through the lens. It is an experience that you will never find at a box store and one that you will appreciate and value. Heather photographs a lot of little ones – as young as 5 days. You can never predict how a baby, toddler or child is going to act or feel. Time is always allowed for mothers to feed their babies, kids to have a snack or even just a break to run around. At Heather Hogan Photography you will never feel rushed – one of the many perks of custom photography.
As is true with time, there are no limits to the amount of images taken, clothing changes you make or combinations shot. Many studios will limit the amount of people you can have in a session, and will charge you a fee per additional person – or they will only take a certain amount of photos and poses. Heather does not follow a set of limitations; every session is fully customized to achieve beautiful photographs each and every time.
Custom Photography isn’t just about the photo session but all the one-on-one service you get throughout your entire experience.
After your photo session has been edited, you will meet for a proofing session to go over your photos. You will be presented with 11×14 contact sheets which are yours to keep and use in selecting which images you would like to enlarge. You will also get the opportunity to sit down with Heather and view her favorite images on her laptop to see how they can look enlarged and cropped.
For your ordering session, Heather offers a home consultation. She will visit your home to see your space and help with the design aspect of deciding which images should go where, what size prints to select and the right style of framing to suit your decor. She will get a feeling for how you “live” in your space and with her eye for design, will help find the perfect place to really showcase your photographs. Many people have difficulty envisioning how the final product will look, or how large a print to buy. Once Heather sees where the photographs will be displayed, she can assist you in selecting the right size and scale for the space. Scale is key and where most people go wrong. People often think “16×20 – that is way too big, I couldn’t hang that in my home…” however, when Heather demonstrates exactly how big – or not so big, it really is, they soon realize that anything smaller in that particular space would look silly and out of place. Clients appreciate Heather’s professional opinion and find the process easier with her help.
All prints are custom printed with great attention to detail ensuring that each image is cropped, retouched and printed to look its best.
Heather Hogan Photography also offers full service custom framing. Heather will take your order, print it, frame it and deliver it to your home ready to hang. As a fully equipped studio, Heather is able to provide custom, personalized and high quality service from the moment you walk in until you receive your final order. This results in beautiful photographs and happy clients.
As illustrated, there is a clear difference between having someone take your picture and working with a custom photographer. It is not just the snap of the shutter – it is the creativity behind every photo, the special touches and the level of service provided… all making the custom experience.
Custom photography is a luxury, not for everyone, but perfect for people who do not want to be rushed, do not want limits on how many photos are taken, how many family members they can include or how many wardrobe changes they are allowed. If you like personal service and high end beautiful photographs then custom photography is for you!
